Changeworks which has been providing an Affordable Warmth Service for householders in or at risk of fuel poverty for many years, is expanding its support across all of South East Scotland in a new project that’s already underway.
Over the next two years, thousands of people will benefit from the Affordable Warmth Advocacy project to increase their health and wellbeing, improve their energy efficiency, and achieve financial savings.
Experienced Affordable Warmth Advisors will empower people to tackle fuel poverty’s root causes as well as delivering immediate crisis support. This includes help with unpaid heating and electricity bills, stabilising debt, resolving complex heating and energy tariff issues, switching supplier, and advocating on their behalf to solve energy problems with suppliers and landlords.
The project will also work with experienced partners to help deepen the reach of the service. Debt charity StepChange will give specific help to those with money problems, and we will work with the Scottish Association of Landlords to reach private tenants.
Support from Home Energy Scotland will also be available to deliver in-depth support on making homes more energy efficient, warmer, and easier to heat. Changeworks delivers Home Energy Scotland in the South East of Scotland, which is funded by Scottish Government, on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust.
Ewan Fraser, Principal Advisor on the Affordable Warmth Service, said: “I’m really excited about the prospect of reaching even more people across South East Scotland to help them with their warmth issues. With this new project we can help a wider range of people than ever before, and combine our experience with that of our partners to really make a big difference to people’s lives.”
The project is funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress, a fund administered by the Energy Saving Trust on behalf of Ofgem. The fund distributes money from payments from energy companies that may have breached rules.
