Grant funding - Energy Advice

As part of its Net Zero plan, the Scottish Government offer funding through Home Energy Scotland. It’s possible to access both grants (money which you don’t have to pay back) and interest free loans.

Full details of funding can be found at on the Home Energy Scotland website, or by contacting one of their advisors. We’ve provided a summary of the main types of funding below.

What funding is available?

The main types of funding available through Home Energy Scotland are:

  • The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan
  • The Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme
  • The Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan

Home Energy Scotland offers grant funding for:

  • Energy efficiency improvements to your home
  • Renewable systems for your home
  • “Secondary” improvements, such as heating controls

Extra funding is available for those in rural and remote parts of Scotland.

An optional interest-free loan can also be accessed.

Who can get the The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan?

If you’re a homeowner and live in your property, you can apply for the grant and/or loan. If you’re building your own home, both types of funding are available for renewable systems.

Full criteria and information about the Grant and Loan can be found on the HES website.

The Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme

The Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme funds households who are finding it hard to heat their homes and pay their energy bills.

Experts carry out a survey of your home to work out which changes could make the biggest positive difference. These might include insulation or a new heating system. The improvements are usually fully paid for by the Scheme.

Who can get help through the Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme?

The Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme is available to homeowners and private sector tenants across Scotland. It’s there to help vulnerable households, so there are extra criteria (based on age and benefits, among others).

Home Energy Scotland has a self-assessment tool to help you see if you’re eligible. You can also contact an advisor directly, if you’d prefer.

Full criteria and information about the Scheme can be found on the HES website.
