Changeworks’ Programme Management team works with local authorities and housing associations to deliver large scale energy efficiency programmes to improve the energy efficiency of homes, reduce carbon and alleviate fuel poverty. We work in Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian and the Scottish Borders.
Our Programme Management services include providing quality assurance services. The team delivers full and impartial technical inspections of insulation installations to ensure the highest industry standards.
Programme Manager, Paul Thom says, “The quality assurance team is a vital and integral part of the managing agent service that Changeworks provide to its clients. Not just for ensuring technical compliance with industry standards, but providing that important link between the householder and the contractor.”
We spoke with John Robertson, the team’s Quality Assurance Manager, to find out more about his role in ensuring high standards are met.
What does your job involve?
I work with, and help, householders who are having external wall insulation installed through the Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland Area Based Schemes (HEEPS ABS). I explain the processes and assist them with any problems that may arise. I carry out technical inspections to ensure works on their properties are carried out to the correct standard as well as identifying and resolving any issues or concerns the householders may have.
What attracted you to the job?
It was the opportunity to continue working with Changeworks. I had worked alongside them on previous Government funded schemes. I like the ethos of the organisation in delivering real positive change to people’s lives.
What experience do you have?
I have over 30 years’ experience in the insulation/construction sector. I have brought knowledge and skills to the role which have helped us to extend our services from providing energy advice on the doorstep, to surveying properties for suitability of insulation measures and now monitoring the quality of the works being carried out.
What do you like most about what you do?
Speaking with householders who are both satisfied and delighted with the works carried out to their properties and who are saving on their energy bills. Also seeing the improvement external wall insulation makes to overall appearance of the area.
What have you done that you feel particularly proud of
Working on large projects with over 500 homes is particularly challenging. I had to ensure that no householder missed out on the opportunity to have the insulation measures carried out. I also played a significant part in putting processes and procedures in place to ensure that each householder gets a high quality installation.
What else do you enjoy about your role?
I have great support from the rest of the office based Programme Management team. It’s also useful to be able to direct householders to the Home Energy Scotland advice centre for additional energy advice.
