Changeworks’ strategy over the next three years is clear and simple – to decarbonise Scotland’s homes.
Here, Changeworks’ Technical Director, Paul Thom, talks us through the second of the five goals highlighted in the strategy – support.
As part of Goal 2, we will support people and organisations who have decided to take action to decarbonise their homes and housing stock.
To deliver on our new and ambitious strategic plan, we’ll need to do a number of things. We'll work closely with local authorities to really maximise the impact that we can have through Scottish Government programmes like the area based schemes. We want to build on the already successful delivery of these programmes and do even more at a larger scale.
We want to use our experience to influence how these programmes are delivered and contribute to the growing success in local authority areas across Scotland. We’ll also be building on the strong relationships with local authorities and housing associations, supporting them to decarbonise their own housing stock by using data analysis, developing strategic plans, maximising funding streams, and delivering projects and programmes across a number of years and at scale. We want to support them on their pathway to net zero.
Of course, it's not only about those in social housing, but also the other 75% of homes in Scotland. We'll develop new and scale up our existing services to support those homeowners who will fund the measures themselves with the aim of really ramping up Scotland’s move towards decarbonisation, using our own and our partners technical expertise to give specific advice about the low carbon and energy efficiency measures that will help decarbonise their homes. This will include working out what's suitable for that property right through to managing the installation and ensuring quality control.
Regardless of who actually owns the property when you install measures into homes, we must put people at the centre of our approach. We will provide the support people need to go on that decarbonisation journey and maximise the benefit of the new technologies and measures that they’ve had installed.
This will support them to have warm and healthy homes, which is exactly the impact we want to have.
