Emergency Heating Oil Scheme
Help for people struggling with the rising cost of heating oil and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Households in Scotland can apply for £300 through the Emergency Heating Oil scheme. The fund is for people who are struggling to afford heating oil and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
What is the Emergency Heating Oil Scheme?
It’s a fund from the Scottish Government to help households who are struggling with the rising price of heating oil and LPG.
As a result of conflict in the Middle East, the costs of heating oil and LPG are currently very high. This is particularly an issue in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, where many households rely on this type of fuel to heat their homes.
Advice Direct Scotland runs the scheme. It was originally meant to finish in September 2026 but has now been extended into the winter months.
How much can I get through the Emergency Heating Oil Scheme?
Households in Scotland can apply for £300 from the fund.
If you’ve applied before, you can apply again after three months.
Who can get the payment?
You can apply to the fund if you meet the following conditions:
- You heat your home with oil or LPG
- You pay the fuel costs for your home
- The home is your main or only home
- You’ve ordered fuel after 1 April 2026 but not yet paid for it OR you are about to place an order
The fund will focus on supporting low income households, including those in receipt of means-tested benefits. You might also get a payment if you are in financial hardship and have a vulnerability.
How do I apply to the Emergency Heating Oil Scheme?
You can apply online at homeheatingadvice.scot.
You can also call 0800 048 7413, but lines are expected to be very busy, so apply online if you can.
