Energy saving tips for under £10
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to start saving energy. Here are our top tips for saving energy on a budget.

Keep the heat in with draught proofing strips
You can use draught proofing strips to block any gaps in your window frames, door frames or floor.
Draught-proofing strips are made of foam. They come in rolls which you cut to the right size then stick in place.
Switch to LED bulbs
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) use 90% less energy than old incandescent bulbs, and about 50% less than older energy saving bulbs.
You don’t have to replace all your lights at once. The next time a bulb stops working, why not replace it with an LED?
Use a draught excluder for internal doors
Draught excluders are a cheap and effective way to stop heat escaping under the bottom of internal doors.
Some draught excluders can be attached to the door so they move with it when it’s being opened and closed.
Install letterbox flaps or brush
You can draught proof your letterbox by fitting flaps or a letterbox brush. The letterbox should have two flaps – one on the outside of your front door, the other on the inside.
Whichever you choose, it only takes a simple bit of DIY to fit them. You’ll need to measure the letterbox to make sure you get the right size flaps or brush. Then it’s just a case of using a screwdriver to fix them into place.
Install a keyhole cover
You can block the draught coming through your keyhole using a keyhole cover. This is usually a coin-sized metal disc that hangs over the keyhole. It can easily be moved to one side when locking and unlocking the door.
