FAQs – Roof replacement

If you’ve been offered the opportunity to have a new roof installed at your home, these FAQs should answer any questions you may have.

1. Approval
Building warrants have been submitted. Work will start once they are approved.

2. Scaffolding
Scaffolding will be put up for safe access. If a chimney is being removed, the scaffold may need extra height and boards.

3. Removal

Old tiles/slates, felt, and battens will be taken off.

Chimneys will be dismantled brick by brick, down to the roofline or fully removed if agreed. The bricks will be lowered safely via chute or scaffold (not dropped).

4. Chimney work

If the chimney is reduced, Sureserve will cap the flue(s), fit lead trays/flashings for waterproofing, and tile/slate over the remaining structure.

5. Repairs and installation

Timber repairs will be done if needed.

A breathable membrane and new battens will be fitted.

New tiles, leadwork, and gutters/fascias will be installed.

Ventilation will be added.

6. Completion
Once Building Control signs off, scaffolding will be removed.
