External wall insulation – Pine Grove
External wall insulation adds a layer of insulation to the outside of your home.
It is finished with a roughcast render to protect against weather.
This makes your walls thicker by about 100–150mm.

FAQs – External wall insulation
If you’ve been offered the opportunity to have External Wall Insulation installed at your home, these FAQs should answer any questions you may have.
1. Scaffolding and preparation
Provided there is clear access all around, scaffolding will be erected around your home.
Protective sheeting will be installed to contain dust and debris.
Fixtures like satellite dishes, downpipes, lights, and vents will be removed or extended.
Satellite dishes will be temporarily fixed to scaffolding (TV service may be interrupted briefly).
2. Adjustments
Rainwater and soil pipes will be extended.
Air vents and gas vents will remain functional.
3. Installation
Walls will be cleaned, repaired, and primed.
Rigid insulation boards will be fixed to the walls.
New deeper sills, verge trims, and soffit extensions will be fitted.
A weatherproof render will be applied.

4. Ventilation
Insulation makes homes warmer, but reduces moisture escape.
Bathroom and kitchen fans may need replacing or installing.
5. Fixtures
Decorative items can be re-attached, but fixings must be installed under the new covering.
Discuss this with the contractor before work starts.
Yes:
Move garden furniture, plants, ornaments, and sheds at least 4 meters from walls. If you are unable to move them, the contractor may be able to assist.
Move vehicles or caravans and cut back bushes/trees if asked.
Remove hanging baskets or items near walls.
If you have a security alarm, arrange for your alarm company to remove and reinstall it (service may be lost during works).
If preparation isn’t done, contractors can’t be responsible for damage.
Yes:
It is important to remember that this is effectively a construction project, and some upheaval is expected.
Scaffolding will be erected, and installation involves drilling, attaching insulation boards and pebble-dashing, so unfortunately there will be a lot of noise at these times.
Pets may find the noise distressing, so please be aware, and always keep them supervised.
There is likely to be some mess. For example, the rendering process can involve stone chips. There will be a lot of chips on the ground at this stage. The installers will put protective film covering over windows and will clean up as much as possible.
Take care in your garden while the work is being carried out, as installers may store materials there while the work is in progress.
Keep doors and windows closed and avoid hanging washing to reduce dust.
Contractors will keep mess and disruption to a minimum and update you regularly.
Usually 6–12 weeks, depending on:
- Property type
- Weather
- Any extra structural work needed
The contractor will be your main contact and available at the site office throughout the works.
The Changeworks Quality Assurance team will carry out independent inspections at all targeted properties. They will ensure the work is of a high standard and to the approved specification. The system manufacturer will also visit site to inspect some properties.
