Meeting Review: Forging Partnerships for Community Impact

On Wednesday, August 13th, the Energy Officers from the Highland Energy Community Partnership (HECP) convened for their first in-person meeting at the Strathpeffer Community Centre. This gathering, chaired by Changeworks, marked a significant step toward establishing a partnership aimed at benefiting communities throughout the project area. Joining the Energy Officers were administrative and communications support from partner organisations, as well as a representative from Home Energy Scotland.

In just two hours, the group efficiently covered key topics, including an overview of the HECP project, insights into Home Energy Scotland, the Household Referral Route, and the Engagement Schedule. This foundational discussion laid the groundwork for the partnership’s future initiatives, highlighting their shared commitment to addressing energy challenges within the communities they serve.

Beyond the agenda, the meeting fostered personal connections among attendees. Participants shared intriguing aspects of their lives, such as performing live on Radio 1, living in a monkey sanctuary, sailing across the Atlantic, and holding a forklift license. These diverse experiences not only added a touch of humour but also contributed to a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and collaboration.

The group also boasted a wealth of experience in community-based projects, demonstrating their dedication to local engagement and empowerment. Alongside this, several members brought valuable expertise from the energy industry, offering insights into energy efficiency and sustainability practices. This combination of community-focused and energy sector knowledge positions the partnership to effectively tackle the challenges faced by their communities.

The palpable excitement in the room was encapsulated by one attendee’s enthusiastic remark: “I can’t wait to get out and share these ideas.” This sentiment reflects the collective eagerness to leverage their diverse experiences and skills to drive impactful change.

As the partnership moves forward, the connections forged during this meeting will undoubtedly play a crucial role in realising HECP’s mission of empowering local communities to embrace energy efficiency and combat climate change. With such a dynamic and passionate group at the helm, the future looks promising for the communities of the Highlands.
