Changeworks responds to UK Government’s mini-budget

Responding to today’s UK Government mini-budget, Changeworks Chief Executive Josiah Lockhart said:

“The Government should be investing in scaling up energy efficiency and renewable heat to reduce demand. Only through investment in these solutions can we tackle fuel poverty and retain our commitment to addressing the climate crisis.”

“This price fix will cost £60 billion over the next months, funded by borrowing. Instead of this temporary measure, the Government could direct this money into decarbonising homes and make a real and lasting impact in reducing poverty and emissions.”

“The Government should be investing in scaling up energy efficiency and renewable heat to reduce demand.”

“The energy price fix does nothing to help those who are already struggling with extraordinarily high fuel bills. We hear from people every day, through our energy advice services, who are already struggling to make ends meet, and this proposal will leave many households deep in fuel poverty.

“We are also disappointed that the Government chose to rule out a windfall tax to pay for this relief. The transition to a green economy must be a fair and just one, and that means those who contribute the most to emissions shouldering responsibility.”
