Changeworks worked with Melville Housing Association to install external wall insulation measures at two of their properties in Penicuik, as part of a wider programme targeting 75 homes.
Changeworks delivers Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes (EES: ABS), the Scottish Government’s flagship energy efficiency programme, for Midlothian Council. The schemes aim to reduce carbon emissions from homes whilst alleviating fuel poverty, and are aimed at private homeowners.
However, Changeworks encouraged Melville Housing Association to take advantage of the economies of scale of the works going on in their area to provide efficiency measures for their tenants at a reduced cost.
Changeworks acts as the managing agent for the wider EES: ABS project in Midlothian, and oversaw the installation and quality assurance at Melville Housing Association’s properties in Penicuik.
Scotland has some of the leakiest homes in Europe when it comes to heat, and an uninsulated house can lose up to 30% of its heat through the walls.
External wall insulation is a layer of insulation that’s fixed to an existing wall on the outside of your home. Installing this measure can help to keep the heat in for longer – reducing the amount of energy needed to keep a home warm. This can make a real difference to household bills and comfort.
