If you’ve been offered the opportunity to have new windows and doors installed at your home, these FAQs should answer any questions you may have.
1. Survey
A surveyor will measure every opening precisely (windows and doors are custom-made).
They’ll check for issues like damp, lintel condition, or structural movement.
2. Installation
Installers will check access and help move any items you couldn’t move.
Dust sheets will protect floors and nearby fixtures.
Old frames and glass will be carefully removed.
New frames will be fitted and sealed inside and out.
Glazing will be slotted in.
Door thresholds, hinges, and locks will be aligned and tested.
3. Handover
The installer will show you how to open, close, and lock your new windows and doors.
Tell Sureserve if anything may prevent the installation from going ahead or if you need help moving curtains, blinds, or furniture etc.
Clear at least 1 metre back from windows and doors.
Remove ornaments, pictures, and valuables from window sills and nearby walls.
Take down blinds or curtains (you can re-hang them after the installation is complete).
Keep pets in a safe space away from the work area.
Yes:
Expect drilling, hammering, and some mess.
Debris will be removed, and old frames and glass will be taken away for recycling/disposal.
Fitters usually replace one window or door at a time, so your home won’t be left exposed overnight.
There’s usually a 4–8 week wait for custom-made windows and doors.
Each window takes 1–2 hours to replace.
A typical home (8–10 windows and 2 doors) takes 2–3 days.
Some plaster or render may chip during removal—this is normal and will be repaired after fitting.
You may need to redecorate where old trims were removed.
