FAQs – Kitchen upgrade

If you’ve been offered the opportunity to have a new kitchen installed at your home, these FAQs should answer any questions you may have.

1. Survey
A surveyor will measure your kitchen and confirm the layout, cabinets, worktops, and appliances.

2. Removal

Old cabinets, worktops, tiles, and flooring will be removed.

Appliances will be disconnected.

3. Preparation

Plumbing and electrics will be repositioned to match the new layout.

Walls will be repaired, plastered, or levelled as needed.

4. Installation

New base and wall units will be fitted.

Appliances will be positioned (not connected yet).

Laminate worktops and splashbacks or tiles will be installed.

5. Finishing

Plumbing and appliances will be connected, tested, and commissioned.

Lighting, sockets, and extractor fan will be fitted.

Final painting and touch-ups will be done.

6. Handover
The installer will show you how to use your appliances.

Yes:

Clear out cupboards and move small appliances.

Set up a temporary food-preparation area (e.g., microwave and kettle in another room).

You will have running water and cooking facilities at the end of each day.

If you have special requirements for cooking during the work, please tell Sureserve.

Yes:

Expect noise and dust from cutting, drilling, and plastering.

Multiple trades (electricians, plumbers, tilers, plasterers) will be involved, so there will be some coming and going.

About 6–7 days to complete the kitchen refit.

The floor will be levelled and ready for you to install your chosen finish.
Moray Council will provide some funding to help with this.

Yes, walls and ceilings will be decorated as part of the work.

The Changeworks Quality Assurance team will carry out independent inspections on all properties. They will ensure the work is of a high standard and to the approved specification.
