Cavity wall insulation – Pine Grove
Many homes built after 1920 have external walls made of two layers of brick or block with a gap (cavity) between them. This gap can let heat escape.
By filling the cavity with insulation, your home will keep more heat in and reduce energy bills.
Note: Existing insulation can degrade over time which is why it needed to be replaced.
FAQs – Cavity wall insulation
If you’ve been offered the opportunity to have cavity wall insulation installed at your home, these FAQs should answer any questions you may have.
1.Survey
A surveyor will check:
- If you have cavity walls
- The condition of any existing insulation
- For damp or cracks that could affect the work
2. Installation
Small holes (about 22mm) will be drilled into the external mortar joints in a set pattern.
Existing insulation will be extracted using specialist equipment.
New insulation (usually polystyrene beads) will be blown into the cavity until full.
3. Finishing
Drill holes will be refilled with colour-matched mortar.
These will blend in after weathering and will not be visible once external wall insulation is installed.
