Developing approaches to alleviate and prevent fuel poverty

The four factors most likely to lead to fuel poverty are low household income, high heating and electricity costs, poor energy efficiency at home and how people use their heating systems and live at home.

  • We are one of Scotland’s most experienced providers of free, impartial energy efficiency advice
  • We help people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their fuel bills
  • Where appropriate, we also refer them for pensions and benefit checks and signpost them to other sources of support.

As the people most likely to be affected by fuel poverty are disabled people, older people, people on a low income, young families, lone parents and people with health issues, we collaborate with local organisations who are already in touch with these groups, to design and deliver services to meet their needs.

“Changeworks' Affordable Warmth is a really useful service which helps us provide a better service for clients and at a time when energy issues and fuel poverty are increasing. We would anticipate referring more clients in future.”
