The Edinburgh Community Solar Co-op (ECSC) was set up to realise a large scale solar PV project in Edinburgh and was borne out of the Edinburgh Community Energy Co-operative (ECEC). The ECEC had received funding previously from the Climate Challenge Fund to look at the potential for solar PV on community buildings in Leith, conducting desk based PV audits and energy audits and engaging with community building users through energy efficiency workshops. Changeworks delivered the majority of this work and the report reviews the key outputs and learnings.
Changeworks has continued to promote the community energy agenda in Edinburgh and a report on an event organised by Changeworks, Community and Co-operative Energy in Edinburgh: The Next Steps, is available.
The Edinburgh Community Solar Co-op presents a step change however in ambition for community energy in Edinburgh with ambitions to install solar PV arrays on 25 Council buildings. Changeworks has worked with ECSC and Energy4All on a range of issues from technical modelling to engaging the public.
We will detail progress as the project proceeds. For further information on wider support services for communities please review our range of support services.
