As part of Compost Awareness Week, 2 to 8 May 2010, Changeworks Master Composter volunteers are on hand to offer residents free, expert advice on home composting.

Local Master Composters cover Edinburgh and the Lothians and can advise you on how start home composting, where to put your bin and what to put in - everything you need to get started. Master Composters can also arrange to visit your compost bin to check that everything is breaking down nicely! All our advice is free, friendly and comes with experience as all the Masters are naturally, home composters themselves.

Edinburgh based Master Composter volunteer Mary Macaulay said, "It is good to talk to others with like interests and to help start new people along the road to caring for our environment. My own garden produce has greatly benefited from my homemade compost. During Compost Awareness Week anyone booking a home visit will receive a FREE kitchen caddy".

Composting - did you know... (source: Zero Waste Scotland) As a nation we produce around 30 million tonnes of waste each year.   Over one third of the contents of an average UK household bin can be home composted (not to mention all the garden waste that can be added) yet many people do not recognise how important and simple it is to do.
