Mr and Mrs Naumann found that the sash and case windows in their traditional Victorian semi-detached home were letting in a lot of cold air. They didn’t want to replace the windows since the timber and glazing were in such good condition, and all of the other solutions that had been presented to them over the years would have spoiled the look of the original windows.

Mr Naumann had visited the Change Works in Burntisland hub, a local project run by Changeworks and Fife Council. He joined the mailing list when he came in, so received an invite to their ‘Love Your Older Home’ event. At the event they heard from the impartial experts of Changeworks and Home Energy Scotland about what was available to them, and met with local suppliers that could help make a warm home a reality.

Mr and Mrs Naumann found the advice they received from Change Works in Burntisland to be invaluable, and felt reassured that they were a trusted source of information. Their endorsement of the local supplier carried weight, and left them feeling comfortable with having the work done.

“It was reassuring to have someone recommended by Changeworks, and they even gave us additional advice about how we could keep our home warmer. We’re very pleased that we’ve had the work done and will be exploring other recommendations that came out of the Energy Saving Trust’s survey.”

The Naumanns arranged a follow up visit from the trust who recommended secondary glazing, and got in touch with a local supplier they had met, to do the work. The secondary glazing was installed in five days.

Since having the work done, the impact has been immediate and noticeable. The Naumanns’ home is warmer, there’s no more condensation on the inside of the windows every morning, and there’s a significant reduction in aircraft and wind noise. and an improvement in their home’s energy rating.

Mr Naumann would advise anyone thinking of having secondary glazing to have it installed.

“The Change Works in Burntisland staff were very good and helpful, as was the Energy Saving Trust survey, which highlighted several areas where energy improvements could be made.”
