zero waste heroes

zero waste hero logoZero Waste Heroes, you have the power!

We transform eco pupils into Zero Waste Heroes and challenge them to reduce, reuse and recycle waste in school and the community. With a first prize of £200, or free trip to Dynamic Earth for the school who gain the most hero points, there’s everything to play for ! Winners will be announced at our end of year celebratory event on the 27th June 2012.

Why do we want Zero Waste?

Waste is a big problem because:

  • We are running out of landfill space to put all our waste
  • It is a waste of valuable natural resources
  • Landfill sites produce methane gas that contributes to climate change

Schools and communities are tackling these problems but there is still more that can be done. That is why we need you to become Zero Waste Heroes.

What will you do?

Each time you take action you will gain Zero Waste Hero power points! We’ll show you what actions to take to reduce waste and how to measure your actions to see how successful they are. Taking action, like setting up a compost scheme at school, or writing to parents to ask them to reduce food waste can make a huge difference. To be able to demonstrate how you have made a difference you must be able to measure what you’ve done. This competition shows you how to do these things and become great Zero Waste Heroes.

Our Zero Waste Hero training and ‘Power Pack’ of hero missions allows eco pupils to gain points, powers and prizes for their efforts. We provide all you need to get started on your first mission in a ‘Power Pouch’ during our re- vamped, all new 45 minute Zero Waste Heroes training session. After receiving your Zero Waste Hero training your school is registered into our competition to find the greatest waste heroes in Edinburgh. Plus the school gets a free waste audit and follow up report to show up where you could make reductions.
