Tip of the day

Drink wine from clear glass bottles (we have a green glass mountain in the UK). Drink beer in glasses instead of bottles and reduce the manufacture of bottles. Drink pints instead of halves as there is less washing up!

We can offer secondary schools:

  • Assemblies based on the Reduce Reuse Recycle  message, learn all about the consequences of not reducing your waste.
  • Waste Audits, conduct a full or partial waste audit of your school. Be prepared to get your hands on some pretty whiffy items your classmates may have thrown out!
  • An invitation to our annual Make Waste History Summit 2012. See below for more details.

Make Waste History in Secondary Schools 2011/12

Changeworks’ Waste Education Service has successfully organised the Make Waste History Summit for the past seven years.

The Summit for 2011 took place on 27 April at the prestigious Napier University Craiglockhart Campus.

Pupils took part in activities to learn the sustainable skills needed to run a business in school and turn enterprising ideas into reality. They learned how to manage, market, finance, evaluate and present their project idea during interactive workshops. At the end of the day, pupils entered the dragons den to pitch their enterprising ideas for the chance to win £250.

Well done to Liberton High School who won on the day with a fantastic concept as well as a very professional and enjoyable presentation.

This years Summit looks like its going to be even bigger with our hosts Portobello High school helping to plan an exciting day for all. Remember teachers that the workshops you attend on the day count towards your annual CPD requirements!
