 What Rot! Composting Competition 2011/12

This years ‘What Rot!’ Composting Competition has begun. The compost judging event will take place in June 2012. Two or three pupils and an adult from each school or nursery we have worked with will be asked to bring along a sample of compost from the school compost bin or wormery. Prizes of £150 will be awarded for the best samples of each! Email us at wasteeducation@changeworks.org.uk to join the competition or to receive compost advice from Dr Compost.

 Finish Your Food Campaign and Competition 2012

Don’t be a silly sausage ‘Finish Your Food’ for free! One third of food is wasted when it could be Reduced, Reused and Recycled. This unique and innovative food waste campaign engages primary school pupils and their parents by encouraging everyone to reduce food waste.  Edinburgh ‘Heroes at Home’ Awarded Bikes

Changeworks awarded 13 prize winning pupils from schools and nurseries across South Edinburgh with bikes from the Bike Station for being "Heroes at Home'. The schools and nurseries had ‘Heroes at Home’ assemblies and storytelling sessions at a as part of the Waste Free Edinburgh project.

 Pentland Pupils Eco Podcast

Pentland Primary School pupils have produced a podcast about their environmental efforts that will be shared with schools across Europe.Their young eco committee worked with Changeworks to make a podcast marking the European Week for Waste Reduction. In the podcast they talk about their greenhouse made out of recycled plastic bottles, tree planting days and the vegetables grown by their gardening club. The pupils then go through their personal pledges to become ‘Zero Waste Heroes’. It can be heard by clicking the link below.

Rebecca Annand, principal teacher at Pentland Primary said: “The eco-committee is delighted to promote the work of European Waste Reduction Week. The whole school community has been very busy taking action to reduce, reuse and recycle. They are keen to promote their eco-activities and to actively encourage their friends across Europe to do the same too.”
