North Edinburgh Footprinting and Fuel Poverty Project

This report provides the results and analysis of a home energy survey carried during June and July 2009. The report includes carbon baseline information based on data gathered as part of the survey, and recommendations for measures to reduce carbon emissions in the North Edinburgh community.

Grange Energy and Renewables Study (GEARS)

The survey aimed to identify the potential for improvements in the energy efficiency of these homes, together with the feasibility of installing on-site energy generating technologies. It was issued to all 3,000 households in the area, and was completed in summer 2009.

Transition Edinburgh South (TES) Renewable energy options appraisal

This report provides an overview of the opportunities for renewable energy generation in a typical street in South Edinburgh where stone-built tenement properties predominate. All the main microgeneration systems are explored, together with larger district heat and power schemes. As well as technical appraisals, broader considerations such as planning policies, cost and payback, CO2 savings and behaviour are considered.

The report includes baseline information on the key characteristics and energy efficiency of properties in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh, based on data gathered as part of the survey, and advises on measures to reduce CO2 emissions in these properties. Food and transport are also covered briefly in the survey and report.
