Tip of the day

Switch fuel supplier and choose a social tariff or one of the many green tariffs on offer. Have a look at www.energyhelpline.com and you could save money on your fuel bills too.

Supporting people to achieve affordable warmth

If fuel poverty is a problem in your area we can help

Are you concerned that the people you work with may be at risk of fuel poverty?

The Domestic Advice Team is keen to work with a wide range of public sector organisations, voluntary agencies and charities who work with people who struggle to keep their home warm, dry and comfortable or worry about paying their gas and electricity bills.

In East Lothian, Edinburgh and Midlothian we can:

  • Run workshops that are free, interactive, and fun on how to keep homes warm, dry and comfortable, and on saving money on gas and electricity costs to groups of people such as young parents’ groups, groups attending day centres for older people, or for people with disabilities or living in sheltered housing.
  • Provide gas and electricity billing and fuel debt workshops to groups who work closely with vulnerable households.
  • Provide a short and informal staff briefings on how our services can help your clients or service users as part of your team meeting or a coffee break.
  • Set up a referral protocol if relevant (or advise on the best way to signpost your clients or service users to us).
  • Refer or signpost clients we work with to your services.
