Don’t be a Silly Sausage, Finish Your Food! Resources and Training for Waste Educators |
A new, exciting and innovative project for waste educators
What teachers have said about Finish Your Food
The ‘Finish Your Food’ project is a proven way to reduce food waste in schools and raise awareness in households.
The whole school community is engaged in food waste reduction through a series of interventions including:
- The character Mr Silly Sausage
- An interactive assembly
- A food waste audit
- A family challenge
The resources are available to all local authorities through the Scottish Waste Education Support Programme (SWESP). A high-quality training programme on effectively engaging young people, teachers and parents through the project comes as part of the package.
What teachers have said about Finish Your Food
“Since the Plate Pledge drive, our pupils are encouraging each other to finish their food, which is great to see. At our last PTA meeting parents were delighted to report a reduction in food waste at home.
Taking part in the Finish Your Food Project is a great way for the wider school community to work together and address the environmental concern of waste.”
Laura Brandon, Depute Head, Carrick Knowe Primary School, Edinburgh
“The children were really excited about how much food they saved and were keen to share this information with the school community and beyond. The plate pledges have also been a great success in involving home too.”
Elaine Reid, Eco Teacher, Roseburn Primary School, Edinburgh
“We noticed a significant reduction in waste following the Finish your Food project”
Morag Crolla, Depute Head, Sciennes Primary School, Edinburgh
