The Edinburgh and Lothians Real Nappy Project

This is an innovative project that aims to encourage Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian parents to use reusable nappies as an alternative to disposable nappies.

There are many benefits to using reusable nappies and terry towelling squares are no longer the only choice. Modern reusable nappies are remarkably easy to use and usually fasten with velcro or poppers. No pins or complicated folding are necessary.

We are keen to work with community groups in order to promote the benefits of using real nappies to as many parents as possible. We can come and visit your group to provide information and give a real nappy demonstration.

To book a talk or demonstration please contact us on: 0131 555 4010 or realnappies@changeworks.org.uk

Master Composter

Changeworks’ Master Composter Project has volunteers across Edinburgh and the Lothians who are trained in effective home composting. These volunteers promote home composting in their own communities by providing advice and attending events, as well as giving presentations on home composting to community groups.

For more information on the project please contact us on: 0131 555 4010 or mastercomposter@changeworks.org.uk

Generous Scotland

Generous Scotland is a Changeworks project promoting a simple message – by donating to, buying from and volunteering for charity shops and reuse projects, Edinburgh residents will not only be raising money for good causes, but will also be contributing to reuse and recycling as well. These charities are a valuable resource in our communities and helping them doesn’t have to cost a penny.

There are over 35 charities with shops and projects in Edinburgh. They range from small local charities to large national ones, address all kinds of needs, and most importantly, they all rely on the support of generous people.

We are now asking local community organisations to get involved in the project and help to make Edinburgh the most Generous City in Europe!

How you and your group can get involved:

Help promote Generous Scotland

Include information about Generous Scotland in your newsletter and display copies of the Edinburgh Charity Shop and Reuse Map in public areas.

Donate

Hold a Donation Day where people bring a few items for a charity of your choice to collect. The collection would then be weighed so that you would know the size and impact of the donation. Changeworks can help by providing promotional materials and liaising with the charity.

Buy

Hold a Charity Shop Challenge competition. Entrants simply need to take a picture of themselves dressed in a charity shop outfit with their name, address, and the date and place the items were bought. Changeworks can provide posters to help promote the competition.

Charity shops and some reuse projects, such as Bits and Bobs Scrapstore, also offer a fantastic supply of materials for crafts, drama, art and play. Use the Edinburgh Charity Map to find your nearest ones.

Volunteer

You can make a massive difference to charities by offering your time. There are all sorts of roles available, but we are particularly looking for environmental champions who will help to increase recycling and reuse in charities. If you have any book lovers, music fans or fashion followers there are also lots of specialist shops that would really benefit from their support. Volunteers may also be eligible for a training session in waste management.

For more information about any of the above please phone 0131 555 4010 or email generouscity@changeworks.org.uk
