CHANGEWORKS: WASTE PREVENTION & RECYCLING
Waste Prevention and Recycling Services
Changeworks exists to improve quality of life and to protect the environment. Our Waste Prevention and Recycling Services aim to prevent waste from going to landfill by reducing, reusing, recycling and home composting in order to safeguard natural resources and to reduce carbon emissions.
Our projects:
- Offer information and practical advice about ‘Reducing, Reusing, Recycling’
- Promote real nappies
- Provide home composting information and access to a network of voluntary expert 'Master Composters'
- Aims to help householders find practical ways to reduce their food waste
- Encourage people to buy from and donate to charity shops/reuse projects
- Deliver waste education to schools
- Deliver training, resources and support for waste educators across Scotland
- Provide businesses/organisations with the skills and tools to deliver sustainable waste management
Changeworks also operates Changeworks Recycling, delivering a range of recycling services for businesses
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce means lowering the amount of waste that we produce e.g. by avoiding over-packaged products. Waste that is not created in the first place does not need to be disposed of, making ‘reduce’ the most effective way to deal with waste.
Reuse involves the multiple use of an item for its original or a new purpose. Waste can often be reused, instead of buying new products e.g. buying second-hand goods from charity shops or a website.
Recycle means using waste materials to manufacture other products e.g. the bottles and jars you take to your local recycling point will be cleaned, crushed and recycled into new bottles and jars.
