Welcome...

TIP OF THE DAY

Before you jump in your car consider if you could walk or cycle. With 1-in-3 passenger car journeys under 2 miles you could save money, improve fitness, reduce your carbon footprint and you may even save time by leaving your car at home. Every trip counts so plan ahead and see if you can travel greener!

Raising the standard of waste education in Scotland

Waste education professionals from all sectors are increasingly being asked to deliver curriculum-linked activities to the formal education sector. SWESP provides a range of support opportunities for waste education professionals including training, resourcing and networking opportunities and has something to offer every organisation, local authority or individual involved in waste education - regardless of prior involvement or level of experience.

Support ranges from residential training programmes to one-day networking seminars. Participants will also be given the tools to quantify the impacts of their educational work.

Here is what a selection of recent course participants thought of SWESP training:

"Fun, friendly and hugely enjoyable. I would recommend this course to anyone involved in waste education."

"A good variety of information, practical activities and opportunities to share with others. Well worth the time and money."

"I would thoroughly recommend the SWESP Core Training. It helped me develop my confidence and skills in moving from one-off workshops to long term school waste reduction projects."

"Unlike any other training course I have been on before - never a dull moment, never boring!"

"The team led by example on how to run an effective and fun learning experience."

Changeworks has seven years’ experience of delivering waste education and works in partnership with Waste Watch, who over the last 10 years have worked with 5,500 schools in the UK through Cycler the Robot and Schools Waste Action Clubs, to deliver the programme. In addition, Waste Watch has developed and delivered the Waste Education Support Programme to over 30 organisations in England. This proven model forms the basis of SWESP.

Changeworks was awarded part-funding to March 2006 from the INCREASE Programme and SEPA to initiate SWESP. The programme will continue to support the sector beyond this date through charges for the training programme.
